Qualifications

• You must be 25 years old or older.
• You must have a specific undergraduate or occupational training path in mind.
• You need to show how that education will prepare you for a specific career goal.
• You must be able to prove that you have the determination and ability to reach your goals.
• You must be currently enrolled in school in at least two (2) classes.
• You must apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.www.fafsa.ed.gov
• You must live and go to school in the Coachella Valley or San Francisco, CA.

Application Process

There are five steps to applying for a Go Girl! Grant. Each step is just as important as the others.

1. Print out and complete the Application Form.
2. Prepare a one page autobiography.
3. Provide us with information about your course of
study and the cost to attain your goal.
4. Submit three references.
5. A personal interview.

Applications are reviewed and processed in January and August. They must be received by the 15th day of the previous month (December and July) for consideration in these designated months. All applications received after these deadlines will be considered in the next processing period.

We will send out Reference Request Forms to the three references provided by you. Once all your information has been received and reviewed, we will contact you for the personal interview, which is the final phase.

And finally, congratulations on your decision to pursue additional education and move forward in life! We'll be with you all the way.

Go Girl! Grants Recipients

The recipients of our Go Girl! Grants are real women with real dreams and goals and stories to tell. We are proud to introduce them to you and will keep you informed as to their progress. We want our Donors to understand where their money is going, and the impact it is making. Together we will make a huge difference in these women's lives. And they, in turn, will have a profound affect on ours.

	Kanima Beck NEW! Kanima Beck is a single mother of 1. She is a full time student attending COD pursing a AA degree in Natural Science and Biology. Her long term goal is to attend UCR in pursuit of obtaining a BS in teaching. Kanima is passionate about perserving our environemnt in Coachella Valley. Kanima is looking to work for the Coachella Reserve or The Living Desert. Kanima has recently survived a horrific accident and is now even more passionate about her education and career goals. In addition to going to school full time and raising her daughter Kanima volunteers at FlowBox, a cirque performance arts and teaching center group for young people. They work with Cup of Happy safe house by hosting fundraising events. Read More
	Breanne Brewer Breanne is a 26 year old single mother of 2 daughters and a son. She is a full time student at COD and has recently applied for the nursing program. Breanne’s longer term goal is to obtain a BS so she can become a registered nurse. Breanne works full time as a medical assistant and phlebotomist. She is very passionate about her career goals. She is determined to create a non-profit retirement home for the elderly who may need a positive, lovely, warm home. All three of Breanne’s’ references commend her self motivation, desire to become a better person, always positive and determined to reach her goal of becoming a RN. Read More
	Toni Brown Toni is a 26 year old single mother of an 8 year old son. She is currently a full time student at COD completing her prerequisites so she can apply for COD’s nursing program. She plans to get an AS in nursing with a longer term goal of attending CSUSB to become a registered nurse. When not attending school full time or working, she volunteers at the ABC recovery center in Indio. Toni is very interested in helping her community. She is currently working in the field as a medical assistant. Toni wants everyone to know that she is a perfect example of someone who has changed their life from hopelessness to unlimited possibilities!Read More
	Nancy Cornicelli Nancy is a single mother of 3 boys, 7, 8 and 11. Nancy’s 7 year old was a rescue adoption when he was 1. Nancy currently attends COD full time to complete her general education classes and receive an AA with the long term goal to transfer to CSUSB to obtain her bachelor degree in nutrition. Nancy career goal is to work at a local hospital as a nutritionist. Nancy currently works as an assistant in a nursing home. Nancy has overcome many obstacles in her life yet she continues to stay focused and clear about what she wants to do. One of the things that Nancy has learned is to know the difference between want and need. At the end of the interview Nancy wanted to make sure we knew that she would be a good investment. 	Paola Cressler Paola is married and has a 1 year old daughter and lives in Indio. She is a part time student attending COD with plans to transfer to CSUSB in 2013. Paola is in pursuit of a teaching credential. She wants to be a history teacher and believes she can make history fun to learn. Paola has learned that letting go of things that are not important and focusing on things that are important helps her stay focused on her education and family. Making her family proud is very important to Paola. Her references praise her for her dedication to getting an education. She wants to teach in Coachella Valley and give back to her community. 	Jenna Floyd NEW! Jenna Floyd is a single mother currently attending the International School of Beauty. She is a full time student and will receive her cosmetology certificate in the fall of 2013. Jenna hopes to some day own her own business. Her goal is to become the best stylist and beauty technician. Jenna comes highly recommended by her instructors which is very beneficial when looking for a position. The local salons work directly with the school to fill their openings. Jenna is very dedicated to providing a better life for herself and her daughter. Read More
	Stacy Forshaw Stacy is a single mother of a son and daughter from Sequim, Washington. She is a full-time student at Peninsula College in Port Angeles pursuing her degree in nursing. Stacy is currently maintaining a 3.67 GPA. Stacy has been working on the Jamestown Health Facility for the past 5 years as a medical assistant. While it is not totally clear to Stacy which nursing field she wants to work in, she has a lot of passion around children’s issues. When her husband of 20 years walked out on her she has dedicated her life to never feeling helpless again. She knew her options were clear. She could either live her life by default, constantly managing crisis or live her life by design. Stacy is very driven and disciplined; these traits have helped her manage school and a full-time job. 	Lorena Giron Lorena Giron is a 26 year old single woman living in Indio. She is currently attending COD as a full time student. She is the first generation in her family to attend college. Her goals are to receive and AS and then later transfer to Cal State to get a BS in Criminal Justice. She is also interested in the paralegal field. Lorena has recently been laid off and hopes to secure a position at the Indio court house. Lorena has always been interested in criminal justice as evidenced by the 10,000 hours she logged as a volunteer explorer through her high school. Read More
	Nicole Hernandez NEW! Nicole Hernandez is a single mother of two. She is a part time student at COD working towards her degree in nursing. She is the first generation in her family to attend college. Her long term goal is to obtain a BS in nursing and hopefully one day become a teacher. She is very interested in preventive care and public health. Nicole is very dedicated and is proud that she had achieved every goal she has set for herself. 	Lynn Kiley Currently attending College Of The Desert, Lynn is in her second semester working towards her AS in Administration of Justice. She is a single mother of a 14-year-old son. She spent 14 years working with the Superior Court of Riverside County and realized that she really wanted more out of life. She recognized that a degree is necessary for a better paying job and to obtain the career she has chosen. Her long-term goal is to obtain a BA in criminal justice. She is currently working as an Administrative Assistant for Village Counseling. Megan has been working since she was 17 and is very determined to reach her educational and career goals. 	Krystle Ramirez Krystle resides in La Quinta and is a single mother of a 2 year old daughter. She is a full time student at COD pursuing a certificate in accounting. She is the first person in her family to attend college. Her interest in the accounting field began when she worked as a teller for Wells Fargo. She is currently looking for an internship with a CPA firm. Krystle is a very determined and motivated college student. Read More
	Veronica Rochin Veronica is a married woman with a 6 year old daughter who lives in Indio. She is currently a full time student attending CSUSB in pursuit of a BS in Psychology with the longer term goal of getting her masters. She will graduate with her BS in 2013. She is the first generation in her family to attend college. Veronica’s husband is unable to work due to having multiple sclerosis and she also cares for her 15 year old brother. She has been employed for the past 6 years as a respite worker for United Cerebral Palsy Center. Veronica is a fighter and will do whatever it takes for her to make a better living for her family. 	Kelli Roma Kelli Roma, of Cathedral City, CA, is a full-time student at COD taking classes to pursue a degree in nursing. Kelli wants to work as a surgical nurse specializing in smile surgery for children. Kelli and her husband have two children ages six and three. Kelli is the past president of the MOMS Club of Palm Springs/Cathedral City and is proud of the key role she played in raising $20,000 for the Natalie Tanner fundraiser. Read More
	Adriana Rosas Adriana Rosas is a 35 year old single mother of 5, including 2 foster daughters. Adriana and her children live in La Quinta. Adriana is the first generation in her family to attend college. She is currently a full time student at COD taking her pre-reqs with the goal of getting into the nursing program. She has a long term goal of becoming a RN. The current economy has impacted Adriana like many others, however she is full of energy and keeps the faith. 	Anna Maria Ryser-Gann Anna Maria Ryser-Gann is a 41 year old single woman who lives in Indio. She is currently attending COD and hopes to transfer to Cal State where her goal is to become a Spanish Teacher for elementary school children. 	Debbie Suer Debbie Suer, of Bermuda Dunes, is a full time student at COD pursuing her AA & CAADAC (California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors) certificate. Debbie is a wife and mother of two adopted sisters, ages 5 and 8. Besides overcoming the grips of alcoholism 21 years ago, Debbie has seen more than her fair share of personal tragedies. Debbie looks to the future with a positive outlook knowing that what she is trying to accomplish will be in the best interest of her family and the community. 	Vivian Suzuki Vivian Suzuki from Palm Springs in currently attending COD full time in pursuit of a business degree. Vivian is the first generation in her family to attend college. COD has an automotive certificate program and Vivian is hoping to become one of the instructors. 	Michaelene Valpy NEW! Michaelene Valpy is married and has 3 children. She is a part time student attending The International School of Beauty in Palm Desert. She has completed the certificate program to become an Esthetician and is currently continuing to take workshops that will give her additional specialized credits. She is in communication with a local salon who is interested in having Michaelene work for them. Her longer term goal is to become an independent contractor in the spa field and open her own business. She is very dedicated to creating a better living for her family.
